GSYS International Team Race Regatta 2016

Quote from NYYC regarding the Team Race Regatta 2016
The event was such a fine example of the best of our sport. An event that gathers sailors from different parts of the world, assembled to crush each other in a team racing event, and thoroughly enjoying the company of each other at the end of each day.
We sailors are all blessed with this common passion!
- Thomas F. O'Brien

The race was held between May 26 to 29 2016 south Skeppsholmen and Kastellholmen.

We were six teams competing for the magnificent trophy.
- Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap
- Royal Swedish Yacht Club
- New York Yacht Club
- Royal Thames Yacht Club
- Royal Yacht Squadron
- Yacht Club Costa Smeralda

The program:
Welcome ceremony on Thursday at the Yacht Club and a buffé tour with s/s Motala Express, the customary Regatta dinner at Hasselbacken on Saturday, and  Prize giving with His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and a buffet at the yacht club made the weekend to an absolute must.

Members and their guests who did not sail had the opportunity to follow the races on Saturday May 28 from MS Victorina.

GSYS International Team Race Regatta 2015
After many years of discussion, we finally got to an International Team Race Regatta in May 2015.
4 teams participated, with a crew of eight sailors in each team. A team from the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, 2 teams from GSYS and 1 team from the Royal Thames Yacht Club (RTYC), one of the leaders in Europe.
GSYS Team racing is match racing with two boats in each team and in our case, J92 boats.

Umpires were two very experienced gentlemen from RTYC, David Lees and Bernard Kinchin (VC). The races went in the middle of Stockholm.

The winner of the 2015 Team Race Regatta was team one from GSYS with helmsmen Thomas Lundqvist and Johan Qviberg. The Challenge Trophy was presented by GSYS Commodore Christer Salén.

In connection with the arrangements we had on Saturday May 23rd, a Regatta dinner was held at Restaurant Hasselbacken. The whole event was a huge success, both competitively and socially. So successful that we decided to organize it again, but now with six teams between May 26 to 29 in 2016.
